The following articles, “Top Six Digital Transformation Trends In Media and Entertainment”, written by Daniel Newman, and “Introduction: Why Digital Writing Matters”, discuss how the use of technology in society has transformed the way in which we live our lives. From home,  to classrooms, work, and even places of leisure technology has become a constant necessity in our lives. The article “Introduction: Why Digital Writing Matters”, focuses on the concept of digital writing and the change it has presented within traditional learning environments. When introducing the concept of digital writing, I found it interesting how the article explained this new form of written expression. “Detailing how through technology the activity of writing itself becomes more than just the traditional use of a pen and paper.”( National Writing Project, Carl Nagin, pg.2)This new form of writing becomes a way to express a concept or idea through channels that weren’t normally considered before technology. However even with the discovery of digital writing, technology itself also pose implications that within a classroom can create a negative effect. Not only do students have access to powerpoint slides instead of a white board and computers in place of notebooks. They also have their own personal phones that when used in a learning environment can show how technology can distract instead of encourage and stimulate. With this new type of digital expression readily accessible in multiple ways the negative implications and distractions it can cause is substantial. When examining a survey by Belden Russonello and Stewart included in the article I was able to understand the mixed reactions of parents when it comes to the inclusion of digital writing in school environments. Some parents believed that certain practices of digital writing were more harmful to a students understanding and progression in the skill of writing. For example, through a graph provided in the article, “ 60% of parents saw instant messaging, a form of digital writing, as a more harmful than beneficial tool ”, in the progression of students understanding and mastery of writing. (National Writing Project, Carl Nagin, pg.9) Digital writing has many forms, and some may be helpful depending on the scenario but the negatives of digital writing also present an issue important to be wary of. Aside from the mix of technology and education, technology has also immersed itself into the entertainment instead. From how we receive the entertainment to how it is initially formatted and created. Currently movies and tv shows and two major examples of technology being used to create the type of entertainment we see today. The “Top Six Digital Transformation Trends In Media and Entertainment”, written by Daniel Newman, article talks about the changes that technology has given the entertainment industry and how it is used to broadcast media at various levels. When reading about AI and how it takes part in the creation of entertainment productions, I was surprised at how far and wide technology has progressed so far. “ The AI created the final trailer within 24 hours-far less than the usual 30 days it would take for a manual edit”.(Daniel Newman, CMO Network,Top Six Digital Transformation Trends in Media and Entertainment) No matter if the technological advancement is made within the entertainment industry or within the walls of a classroom, technology has the power to help us live our lives.
